Additional ICB Winter Funding for Community Pharmacy

Hampshire & Isle of Wight ICB recognises that Community Pharmacies consistently play a vital role in easing winter pressures, acting as a safety net for the NHS and patients during this most critical of seasons for the health service. But to continue to do so, pharmacies need investment and sustained support all year round.

The ask, locally as an Integrated Care Board, is to help support Community Pharmacy this winter to help create additional capacity within primary care and supporting the wider system.

Community Pharmacy is an accessible health care setting, but unlike general practice (and other primary care settings) there is no register of appointments that are recorded for all the interactions patients have with Community Pharmacy. This makes it harder to gauge the true footfall and patient numbers seen. The only visible activity is the completed claims made by a pharmacy via their monthly submission for any services delivered.

Funding:

NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight ICB are providing additional winter funding totalling £150,000 for Community Pharmacies in the ICB area to support pharmacies locally.

Eligibility to be part of the scheme and receive payment. A pharmacy must:

• Be located within HIOW ICB area
• Provide Pharmacy First, Pharmacy Contraception Service and Hypertension Case Finding service (these service support creating capacity withing general practice)
• Provide Discharge Medicine Service (this service help reduce readmission and supporting patient at home)
• Complete MS form link below to show that you want to participate and claim the winter additional funds.

Summary:

• Creating this capacity across the system and diverting patients into Pharmacy Services where appropriate will help release the service potential during winter. This can help the ICB evaluate any additional conditions that could be treated via Community Pharmacy.
