Hypertension Case Finding Service

• Remember is the blood pressure is high and needs an urgent referral to the surgery, please make sure you also phone the surgery to highlight the patient to them.
  • Pharmacies can use the surgery non public number to do this.
• Where a patient’s reading indicates the need for ABPM, this should be offered in a timely manner.

ABPM Requirements start from 1^st October 2025.

Tip: the best way to ensure you do at least one ABPM per month is to work with your local surgeries and encourage them to refer patients to you. That way you aren’t reliant on finding someone who needs one yourself

Pharmacy Contraception Service

• Remember if supplying the combined oral contraception (COC) you must do a Blood Pressure measurement if the consultation is face to face.
• If you are supplying 9/12months of a POP it is good practice to do a blood pressure measurement.
• Consider only supplying 6 month or 9 months if dates on product don’t allow for 12 months.

Flu Vaccination & Blood Pressure

If offering blood pressure during vaccinations, be aware of any high readings and ‘white coat’ syndrome when referring patients to their GP surgery.
