Dementia Support Hampshire & IOW is an independent charity that supports everyone living with dementia including family carers from first signs of memory loss throughout the dementia journey.

They have a website with bitesize information about dementia, what local support is available and services, including local events and activities across the whole region.

Their peer support groups are very popular and currently run in Basingstoke, New Milton, Eastleigh and Fareham.

They will be launching in Havant/Waterlooville, Portsmouth, Andover and Fleet/Farnborough by the end of this year.

The groups are very informal and enable the person with dementia and their family carer to meet with others going through the same situation, helping them to make new friends and build support networks. People can choose to participate in activities such as arts & crafts, cognitive stimulation, reminiscence, or simply enjoy a cuppa and chat. Help is on hand from staff and volunteers.

The helpline is available Monday-Friday 8am-6pm (excluding bank holidays). 0344 324 6589

They will be providing a home visit service across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight areas in the coming months helping patients and carers with:

  • Benefits checks and help to claim
  • Help to apply for Power of Attorney
  • Gas & CO safety checks - including Locking Cooker Valve referrals
  • Help to sign up for the Priority Services Register
  • Energy & Debt Advice, and onward referrals for those in need
  • Signposting to dementia community services, events and activities

Anyone can make a referral online at https://www.mydementiasupport.org/make-a-referral/ or call 0344 324 6589.
