Hospital Resident Doctor Strikes

25th to 30th July 2025

The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced that resident doctors (formerly known as junior doctors) will take part in strike action from 7am on Friday 25th July 2025 to 7am on Wednesday 30th July 2025.

Please be aware that this industrial action is likely to cause disruptions to GP services, which may lead to increased pressure on Community Pharmacies due to higher volumes of patient enquiries and prescription-related issues.

Guidance for Pharmacy Teams – Patient Advice
During this period, pharmacy teams should remind patients that the NHS is asking the public to use healthcare services wisely. Simple actions can help ensure care remains available for those who need it most:

  • Use NHS 111 online (111.nhs.uk) or 111 (phone) as the first point of contact for non-emergency health needs.
  • Only call 999 in genuine, life-threatening emergencies.
  • Utilise Community Pharmacy services where appropriate, especially for advice on minor ailments, over-the-counter treatments, and general health queries to help avoid unnecessary visits to GPs or emergency services.
