Repeat Prescription?  Only Order What You Need

NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight have launched a new medicine waste campaign they would like community pharmacies to help support.

Around 150,000 people in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have repeat prescriptions for multiple medications every month. It is estimated that 2.5 million repeat prescription items are wasted unnecessarily in our area each year

Only order what you need hopes to encourage people on repeat prescriptions to check what medicines they have at home before they order.

NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight have produced public facing comms to support the campaign: These include social media and local paper advertising, posters and digital screens for display in GP practices and community pharmacies. There is also further information on their website:

They would welcome support from community pharmacies with the campaign by using the resources to share the message with patients and carers as wide as possible.

Any questions: feel free to contact the medicines optimisation team who will be delivering posters to pharmacy or Andrea White who is leading the overprescribing project for the ICB Andrea.white3@nhs.net
