Original Pack Dispensing

New regulations from 1st January 2025

Original Pack Dispensing (OPD) allowing +/- 10% of prescribed quantity to be dispensed have been introduced for electronic NHS prescriptions ONLY.
The amendments to the pharmacy regulations require the supervising pharmacist to consider dispensing up to 10% more or less than the prescribed quantity when appropriate, allowing pharmacists the flexibility to supply medicines in the manufacturer's original pack.
It is not mandatory to dispense the original pack but the pharmacist MUST CONSIDER it.
Do not start to consider +/-10% for prescriptions until your PMR IT provider has confirmed the system is ready to process and claim accurately what has been dispensed.
