Pharmacy First Changes to Gateways and PGDs

PGDs

Please make sure you have read and understood the changes to the existing PGDs for the clinical pathways.

All Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians must either sign all the individual PGDs or alternatively use the master authorisation sheet here:

Gateways

All pathways can be accessed here

Otitis media

Provision of an otoscopic examination is now gateway. Any consultations where you use your otoscope to view inside the ear can be claimed for regardless of the final diagnosis.

Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

Any eligible patient presenting with a UTI who does not need an onward referral now meets the gateway for a claimable consultation irrespective of how many of the common symptoms they have or how it will be treated.

Impetigo

Gateway is for any consultation where physical observations are made of the patient.

Infected Insect Bites

Bite or sting that occurred while travelling outside of UK with concern of insect borne diseases. – This does mean all insect bites from abroad are excluded from being treated.

Not all tick bites need referral, make sure you are familiar with local information including a patient advice sheet which can be accessed here

Acute Sore Throat

Gateway reached for any patient with a FEVERPAIN score of 2 or above.

Acute Sinusitis

Gateway for a claimable consultation occurs before duration of condition

Shingles

Gateway is for any consultation where physical observations are made of the patient.
