Academy Series September 2019

Building Effective Relationships (transformation and integration)

Engaging with, and being integrated in the new Primary Care Networks (PCNs), is critical for the sustainability of community pharmacy. Since the 1st July they have been forming across our patch, and to reflect their importance we have brought forward this Academy series which was originally planned for February 2020.

Why we believe attending is important:

  • Too often and for too long, we have practiced in isolation outside of core primary healthcare and public health; this is not good for patients, the NHS or pharmacy
  • The health and care landscape is changing rapidly through transformation and integration programmes and community pharmacy must adapt accordingly; integration is a key focus for the NHS
  • Those who have established effective professional relationships with other health and care providers and local commissioners have benefited from doing so. This comes from an understanding of local needs, knowing who to engage with, and then developing relationships and building trust
  • This workshop will explore why this is important, what needs to be done and how to develop productive relationships with others, through effective communication

What you will learn:

  • Understand why being involved with PCNs and others is so important
  • Work with others to define what needs to be done now and what to prepare for
  • Consider how to collaborate with other pharmacies, when otherwise competing
  • Develop your engagement and collaboration skills
  • be able to describe the importance of stakeholder engagement
  • define who your key local stakeholders for your pharmacy are and how to work effectively with them
  • understand how to establish the needs of others and be able to present the benefits of your pharmacy based on those needs
  • how to sell your services to others, particularly GPs.

Finally, continuing to attend the Academy events supports your continuing professional development for revalidation, and enables you to develop relationships with others. This topic would make a great one for your peer discussion!

We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment and please encourage your colleagues in the local area to come along.

The meeting will commence with hot two course meal at 6:30pm, for a 7:15pm start. We will finish at 9:30pm.

This event is FREE to attend and includes a two course hot meal and refreshments.
