ALERT: Signed orders from opticians

Written by admin on Friday 1st May 2020

Signed orders from Opticians for the treatment of minor eye conditions should be treated the same as for a private prescription. Read on for more details...

Locally, the form shown below on the left is the correct form that Opticians should be issuing to their patients when it is intended for them to obtain and purchase medication from community pharmacies. The form on the right should NOT be used as there is no NHS commissioned service to support claiming the cost of dispensing the prescription back to pharmacy contractors.

Local Opticians have been reminded this week to use the correct form.

Note: If one of the forms on the right is presented for dispensing – it can be dispensed, but needs to be treated as a private prescription and the customer needs to pay.
