Pharmacy First Minor Illnesses – Burns and Scalds 

This month’s staff training from Virtual Outcomes.

Course Objectives

  • To understand the main causes of burns and scalds
  • To understand how burns are defined
  • To understand what advice you can offer individuals
  • To understand what red flags you should be aware of that suggest the burn is a non-accidental injury

Course length – approx. 15 minutes

This training has been produced to support you with the delivery of the Pharmacy First: Minor Illness Referrals.

This is the second of two modules on foot conditions. It provides an overview of conditions to help all the community pharmacy team with providing advice to patients.

  • Do you that burns are the 4th most common type of trauma worldwide and that children account for 50% of the population with severe burn injuries?
  • Do you know that sunburn is classified as a first-degree burn?
  • Do you know what the red flags are that suggest the burn is a non-accidental injury 

This online training is provided free of charge to all community pharmacies located in Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, and Portsmouth. The training has been funded by Community Pharmacy Hampshire & Isle of Wight to help pharmacies meet their requirement to deliver services and support health promotion activities throughout the year.
