Watch the following videos to get an overview of the relevant examination skills:

The purpose of observing the examinations is to introduce you to the examination and the terminology that is used. If you are unfamiliar with any of the terms used in the videos, look them up and make a note of their meaning. Reflect on the examinations that you have observed, and the relevance to your role.

  • In what context will you be undertaking these examinations?
  • How can you make the process more person-centred?
  • What actions will you need to undertake following the workshop to achieve and evidence your competence in these examinations?

Anatomy reading

You may need to undertake some background reading on anatomy in relation to the anatomy of the ear, nose and throat in advance of the workshop. In order to gain the most from the clinical assessments skills workshops, you should be familiar with:

• general anatomical terms

• terms relating to anatomical positioning

• anatomical diagrams of the areas to be examined.
