Supporting Trainee Pharmacists with Vaccination Experience

The new foundation training year for trainee pharmacists has now started; this will be the first year where trainees will complete prescribing competencies as part of this training. With this comes additional skills that need to be undertaken, one of which is vaccination.
The acute providers (hospitals) are struggling to provide this training and the opportunities for trainees to use these skills.
As a system, and to support out acute colleagues, we are seeking volunteers from the Community Pharmacy sector who would be happy to host a trainee pharmacist volunteer vaccinator for some of the winter vaccination programme so they can learn and use.
There are approximately 30 trainee pharmacists looking for vaccination experience opportunities.
